What is Moxibustion?

This alternative form of medicine has been used for hundreds of years to relieve chills from the body and to naturally rebalance an individual’s qi. Traditionally used in combination with Acupuncture, these treatments aim to warm the body and remove stagnation in order to restore your body back to its best. Although gentle enough to be used on people of all ages.

When is Moxibustion used?

Mugwort

Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which dried plant materials called “moxa” are burned on or very near the surface of the skin. The intention is to warm and invigorate the flow of Qi in the body and dispel certain pathogenic influences.
Moxa is usually made from the dried leafy material of Chinese mugwort (Artemesia argyi or A.vlugaris) or also Cigar-like moxa rolls, raw rice grain size pieces and compressed smokeless sticks and cones are just some of the forms this herb can take, with boxes and specifically designed acupuncture needles also used as tools to deliver the warming effects of this traditional therapy. This powerful medicinal herb has a long history in both China and the West, and is perhaps best known in America for its close association with the “witches” of Medieval Europe. This is because of its frequent use in folk remedies, particularly to ease stomach pain, menstrual irregularities, anxiety, and itchy skin.
